BSS was commissioned to renovate and maintain the pedestrian footbridge at Wareham Station when damage was discovered that weakened the structure. Our team surveyed the bridge and determined that the following actions should be taken; the bridge should be stripped back to its original structure, and any damaged parts should be removed and replaced.
The most challenging part of this project was that the railway underneath the pedestrian footbridge needed to remain operational throughout the period of time during which we worked. As such, we chose to scaffold and completely encapsulate the bridge, allowing trains to pass by underneath, and keep all of our workers safe. Our team had to complete this project in a relatively constricted work space, but all challenges were overcome.
We finished in a timely manner, despite the workspace restraints and added finishing steel touches; the sleek stainless-steel handrail was sealed with LED lighting for built-in illumination.
