Building Steel Solutions was contracted in 2012 to help refurbish St Paul’s house in London. The original structure needed to be entirely refurbished into a new block of offices.
Previously built in the 1920s and rebuilt since WW2, the building was set to be entirely revamped. The goal was to create a modern office block, but this presented several engineering challenges and the site revealed significant access issues.
Despite these challenges, BSS were involved in installing new steel staircases, and a steel sixth floor, including a roof over the top, along with carrying out modifications to the fire service lift and the twin tenants’ lift shaft. Over the course of the project, we also assisted in revamping the entire basement and lowering the ground floor to be level with existing pavement, and adding service voids through the ground, first, second, third, fourth and fifth floors.
Our client, McLaren Construction, were happy with the assistance we provided for them, and the obstacles we helped them overcome.
